Perfect oven baked plantain chips that are crispy, delicious and healthy. They require less than 7 ingredients and will be ready in less than 30 minutes!
Preheat oven to 175 C or 350 F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Cut the top and bottom ends of the plantain. Using the tip of a knife, slit lengthwise down the plantain, only cutting as deep as the peel is thick. Carefully peel and discard the skin.
Thinly slice the plantain using a mandolin slicer. They should not be paper thin but thin enough so they can turn crispy.
Add the chips to a mixing bowl and season with salt and coconut oil.
Mix well and place the seasoned slices on a baking sheet, making sure the slices don't touch each other. They won't crisp up if they touch each other.
Bake the plantain chips for about 22 to 24 minutes till all pieces are perfectly cooked and crispy.
Keep a close eye towards the end as cooking times can vary based on the oven type.
Once they are out of the oven and are still hot, sprinkle a pinch of salt and additional seasoning (optional) of your choice. We like paprika powder for a sweet and peppery taste, cayenne pepper for a bit of spice or, lime zest for a fresh citrusy taste.
Let them cool for about 10 minutes after they are out of the oven. Enjoy snacking!
