What is boom boom sauce
Boom boom sauce is an amazing condiment that can take any meal to the next level! It is believed to have been created in the early 2000s by a restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina. This popular sauce is served at Sheetz gas station with some of their menu items.
What does boom boom sauce taste like
This amazing sauce has a unique flavour that is a combination of sweet and spicy, with a hint of garlic. This sauce can be used as a dip, a marinade, or even as an ingredient in recipes such as salads, sandwiches, and more. Its versatility makes it a great addition to any kitchen pantry. Whether you’re looking to add some extra flavor to a dish or take your meal to the next level, boom boom sauce is sure to be a hit!
How can you use this sauce
This irresistible sauce can be used in a variety of recipes. As a condiment, boom boom sauce can be used to add a spicy, tangy kick to burgers, fries, crisps, nachos, fritters and more. As an ingredient, this sauce can be used to make chili, tacos, and other flavorful dishes. For example, you can make a tasty taco salad by mixing black beans, onions, bell peppers, and lettuce and topping it with a generous helping of boom boom sauce. You can also make an easy and delicious chili by combining canned tomatoes, kidney beans, pinto beans, red bell peppers, corn, and boom boom sauce and simmering it until the flavours blend together. There are so many possibilities when it comes to using this sauce in recipes!
Why you will love this recipe
The Sheetz boom boom sauce is believed to contain soybean oil, Worcestershire sauce, distilled vinegar, sugar, egg yolk, aged cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, red bell pepper, chilli, chilli de arbol pepper and more.
This recipe is my take on Sheetz’s boom boom sauce. This sauce is creamy, spicy, sweet and garlicky, just like the original sauce (if not better).
I highly recommend making your own boom boom sauce. Homemade version is way better than store-bought sauce as it is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can control the flavours and spices according to your taste. You can also make it as spicy or mild as you want. Additionally, it is often cheaper to make your own sauce than buy it at the store, and it is much more likely to be preservative-free. Finally, it is a great way to add a unique and delicious twist to any dish!
You will LOVE my recipe.
- It is made without mayonnaise – Eating mayonnaise regularly can be unhealthy due to its high saturated fat content. I wanted to create the same flavour using healthy ingredients. This recipe includes wholesome ingredients such as natural yogurt and tahini instead of mayonnaise. Trust me, you will love the taste much more than the original sauce. It is seriously addictive!
- It requires only 5 ingredients – All of the ingredients are easy to find in your local grocery store!
- It is perfect for meal prep and is very versatile. This would be a great option if you’re looking for a new way to spice up your sandwiches, burgers, or wraps.
- It takes less than 5 minutes to make this fantastic sauce.
- This sauce is gluten-free.
Ingredients to make my quick & easy boom boom sauce recipe
Making homemade boom boom sauce is easy and delicious! You only need 5 ingredients*.
Plain yogurt – I used plain full-fat yogurt. You can also use plain greek yogurt for extra creaminess. Yogurt adds a tangy flavour, which is essential for this sauce.
Tahini – Make sure you use runny tahini for this recipe. The nutty and creamy flavour of tahini pairs very well with yogurt and garlic.
Sriracha sauce – Sriracha sauce has a unique flavour that is both spicy and sweet. It has a hint of garlic and a slight tanginess. I used Sauce Shop Sriracha Chilli Sauce which I purchased on Amazon. The heat level of sriracha sauce can vary depending on the brand, but it is usually quite mild. It pairs exceptionally well with yogurt, tahini and garlic, and adds a great kick to the sauce.
Garlic powder – Garlic powder adds a savoury depth of flavour. It is milder than fresh garlic and is a great option to add a subtle garlic flavour without overpowering the other ingredients in the sauce.
Salt and red chilli powder – To season the sauce.
How to make the best boom boom sauce
Making boom boom sauce is super simple. Just mix the yogurt, tahini, sriracha sauce, garlic powder, salt and red chilli powder in a small bowl until smooth and creamy. Drizzle over your favourite dishes and enjoy!

Top tips
- Start with a good quality yogurt as your base.
- Use runny tahini. Good quality tahini which does not have any ingredients in it other than sesame seeds, often separates, leaving hard deposits at the bottom of the jar. Do not use the hardened tahini, as it will not blend well with yogurt and can leave lumps.
- Mix in your favourite hot sauce for a spicy kick.
- Add a bit of fresh minced garlic for some depth of flavour.
- Do a taste check and add your own twist of flavours. Add a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce for a savoury note, a dash of honey or maple syrup for a hint of sweetness, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice for some acidity, or a pinch of smoked paprika for a smoky flavour.
Enjoy experimenting with different flavour combinations to find the perfect balance for you. Have fun and enjoy!
